Where does it go?
Once you have left, the auto reply exists to send people to your successor, and it should do that in its first two sentences: "As of October 14 I am no longer with the company, so this is an automatic reply. For all questions, reach out to Priya Nair at priya.nair@yourcompany.com, who has taken over my responsibilities."
It does not need to say why you left or where you are going next, your personal email stays out unless the company has agreed, and a wry line is acceptable for a voluntary departure but never for one that was not.

Thank you for your email, which has arrived at an address that retired on [Back on] along with its owner. Nobody is reading this inbox, not even me, and I have checked. For anything related to my old role, [Who covers] has taken over and can be reached at [Their email]; they are excellent and have not yet learned to fear your subject lines. Wishing you well.

A former employee is writing this automatic reply, which is a sentence I never expected to write. I left the company on [Back on], and this mailbox is sealed; messages are not read or forwarded, including the good ones. [Who covers] has picked up my responsibilities and would genuinely like to hear from you at [Their email]. Thank you for the years of email, and good luck with everything.

What to leave out
Your personal email or LinkedIn by default. Many employers forbid it; redirect to the role, and let people who matter find you.
The reason. "No longer with the company" covers resignation, retirement and dismissal equally well.
Your new employer's name, which can read as poaching from an address that still belongs to the old one.
A bitter note. The reply will be read by clients and former colleagues for months after you have forgotten it.
"Messages are being forwarded" unless IT has actually set that up; say the box is closed and name the successor.
Filling it in
Enter your last working day as the end date and your successor's name and work address as the contact; there is no start date for this one. Agree the wording with your manager, since the reply speaks for the company after you have gone, and ask IT how long the mailbox will keep replying.
Questions people ask
What should a permanent out of office message say when you leave a company?
That you have left and when, that this mailbox is closed, and who has taken over your role with their work address. The phrase no longer with the company fits a resignation, a retirement and a dismissal alike and gives nothing away. Do not add your personal email or LinkedIn unless your employer has agreed, and do not name your new employer. Agree the wording with your manager, because the reply will be speaking for the company long after your last day.
What is a good retirement out of office message?
The same as any leaving reply, with one extra fact: the mailbox is not forwarded, so senders should not wait. Name the successor and their address, give the date you left, and state that the account is no longer monitored. A wry line is fine for a retirement, since it was your choice, and the funny items here are written for that case. For the goodbye to colleagues, which is a different message, see the retirement pages.
Should a leaving the company auto reply include my personal email?
By default, no. Many employers forbid it, the address is the company's, and a personal email in a work reply can look like you are taking clients with you. Redirect to the successor in the role and let the people who matter find you the way they already can. If your manager agrees to a personal address, the professional items here can carry it in one sentence after the successor's details.

The auto reply is one of five things. The other four take about ten minutes and prevent most of the emails you will read when you get back.
